Vacation... All I ever Wanted!

Hello from the other side, my friends!

I have been traveling like a maniac across the country: Nevada, Utah, Yosemite and the Sierra Nevadas of California.  I have spent more hours in the car than I have in the past year and my children are now seasoned travelers.

In my three weeks, I've seen: mountains majesty, 3 dead cows on the side of the road on Hwy 6, trees you can stand inside, little boys fishing in pond, lake, and stream, Oded Fehr (heck yes, and it was thrilling for a Resident Evil fan like me), and a thrashed trailer thanks to a mama bear and her three (YES THREE) cubs that adopted my parents' property.

I have missed my internet and my goodreads addiction reached an all time HIGH, but there is good news (besides happy boys and husband who have FOR ONCE received my entire attention):  I'm 9 books ahead in my books of the year goal and I've officially begun to start on the next book in the Five Tribes series.

So what is the scoop, my ROWs' compadres?  Sorry to join in late!  Aeris is halfway finished with its proofing, or so I have assurance from my proof reader.  I've also been told I have a serious problem with ending sentences with prepositions.  Yay, something else to work on in my writing!  Hopefully, very soon it will be making its way to me for final additions (copyrights, acknowledgments, etc.) and formatting.

And on the Terris front: I'm 2/3rds finished with Nikka's chapter outline, and 2/3rds finished with Luka's.  Zyander's storyline will be a bit more complicated this time around, simply because he's got so much going on.  So far, I have about 4 chapters of his story outlined.

This time around, in Terris, I will be writing each story line on its own.  Hopefully, that will keep my writing at a faster pace.  I'm also going to try being a bit more detailed with my chapter outline.  Last time around I did summaries for each story, but that didn't have enough detail to carry me through the rough spots.  There were a lot of pleasant surprises that resulted, but I don't think I would have had the same issues with Zyander's story line, if I'd had a better outline.

It's hard for me, because I'm a creative person and I want wiggle room.  But I need to constantly remind myself to be more organized.  To that effect, I've started a Scrivener file on the Five Tribes Series.

My other goal, besides finally getting some of my concept art posted, is to dedicate one day a week to writing the next Angelic Agents story.  It may turn out to be a Novella.  Not sure yet.  But I'm having fun planning it.

That's all for now.   The book is still at a reduced price.  For now.  Will decide what to do after I've emailed Smashwords.

Happy vacationing! We've been on the same page - just thousands of miles I've been hauling my cookies back and forth from PA to Ocean City, back to PA, back to Annapolis (twice)...and soon, I'll head back to good old Maryland. That beach is calling my name!

My two youngest were old enough/good enough swimmers to boogie-board in the ocean this year. Watching them was amazing (and down right frightening I'll add). And of course, my 16 year old son and his friend (we traveled with another family - his best friend's family) traipsed up and down the boardwalk. Bikini

Our adventure didn't include a bear (or bears as the case may but did house an adventure. We booked our hotel online (the images were beautiful...ahem) but when we got there - er, not so beautiful. Ha! The lobby was gorgeous, the rooms - not so much. My kids slept in their first ramshakle hotel - OY! :}

Have a great writing/editing week, Kate. It's good to be

Sounds like a wonderful vacation! I am envious of having all that time to read. Somehow, I only managed to read three books during mine, and that was with an 8-hour plane ride both ways! Good luck getting back into your writing!

@Nadja: I've had that last one happen to some good friends of mine. They rented a house which was NOT as advertised. It was so far away from AS advertised that they had to vacate the house and ask for their money back.

Have fun on your travels! It's GREAT to be home. :)

@Jennette: I had lots of downtime with no internet/computer and the boys naptimes. It was that or sleep. :)

@Alberta: It's true, California is a place that has lots of bears. They are mostly the harmless type, however. :)

Hi Kate, it sounds like you've been having a great time with your family. Watch those bears... I'm really glad we don't have them here in Australia.

It's great to read your ROW80 goals and see how you're doing in your writing. Like you, I like my wriggle space. ;-) Keep up the excellent work. It sounds like an exciting series.

Writing on the road always sounds lovely but can often be tricky so glad you managed to get lots done! August is one of the camp nano months, would be great if you joined in! Have a great week :)

Wow, what a vacation! It sounds more like a quest...
I envy how organized you are in your writing. I know a lot of people who have tried Scrivener and liked it- maybe I'll give it a whirl. And yay for Aeris! I can't wait!

@Cate: Be glad you don't have bears. According to Stephen Colbert, they are America's greatest threat. Not sure why. Perhaps, like Winnie the Pooh, they would eat up all our honey?

Kate said...

@Em: I now make the goal to have my book outline done by August so I can join bootcamp with you. And anyone else who wants to join, of course.

Feel free to hit me up for a friend notice. :)

@Vicki: I'm woefully disorganized, which is why I MUST try something else! It was so bad that I had a character with two different names for a while. Can you imagine if I'd published that?? Crazy.

Just to let you know I think I added you to my cabin! If not we cn try again....won't be done for 16 hours!!! My username is EmWantstowrite if I didn't do it write :)

@Em: I added you to my cabin. It didn't listen to my request, so I opted out of my current cabin and tried again. We'll see if it works tomorrow. You should probably try to add me again, too, and opt out of your current cabin.
